How Author Gate Chooses Books

Our Critea For Publishing

Author Gate is a small, independent traditional publishing company.

As such, we are selective about the number of books we publish each year. Every title we accept represents a significant investment of time, expertise, and financial resources throughout the publishing process. Once a book is released, we make a further investment in its marketing, promotion, sales, and distribution.

Our authors also make incredible sacrifices. It is common for authors to spend years writing their work, only for our editors to request further rewrites and revisions before a manuscript is accepted or published. It is our authors' dedication, commitment, and willingness to refine their work that sets their books apart and is one of the reasons they are chosen above others.

Whilst we are committed to supporting new writers, we cannot publish every manuscript we receive. Every book we do publish has been carefully selected because it has demonstrated exceptional publishing potential and high literary value.

Some of the particular criteria we consider when selecting books for publication include:

  • Original works of fiction that tell compelling stories in fresh and imaginative ways.
  • Biographies and memoirs that offer unique perspectives, reveal little-known experiences, or provide insight into remarkable events and lives.
  • Reference and non-fiction works written by recognised experts in specialised niche subject areas.

As a commercial retail publisher, we must generate revenue through book sales. Some books, particularly fiction, may generate sales relatively quickly, while specialist or niche titles often build their readership over a longer period. Commercial success is a necessity for any publishing business; however, this does not diminish the quality of the writing or the literary merit of the books we publish. Every title is chosen because we believe it is worthy of publication and because of the dedication and talent of its author.
